These books are basically the main reads about UK surf history, as well as some articles in mags, and have been a huge help with writing the blog. Since I wasn't there back in the day ( I was born in '75) , I would have been stumped when trying to write about some surf labels and shapers if it wasn't for The Surfing Tribe and You should have been here yesterday especially. I'm just learning as I go along, much as you hopefully are too.
Available from all good surf/ book shops, recently published ; written by Newquay's Roger Mansfield and a broad overview of the surf history around Britian and the Channel Islands. The most comprehensive book available for the UK.
Available through Blurb, a great piece of surf photography by Alex Williams of his 1970s photos. Part of the huge Williams archive - when's an 80s book coming Alex ?
Out of print, published in the early 90s, by Rod Holmes with photos by Doug Wilson of Bilbo. A good read about the Newquay crew and what they got upto through the 60s, travel, characters etc, with loads of great photos.
Compiled by Rod Sumpter, this is a book of memorabilia, with some interesting rare bits of British surf history, as well as a fair share of US and Australian. Available in good book shops.
I don't have a copy of this but it looks good - history of the Jersey surfboard club and surfers , available to buy through their website. Any chance of a free copy ??
