Popped round to my friend James' house yesterday and checked out this lovely Ocean Magic. Its an early 6 ft thruster, from '82 ish shaped by Nigel Semmens of course ('Handcrafted by Nigel Semmens' written in italics ) . Its got some unusual features - the big and bold union jack on the underside - carrying nicely on from the britannia post last week. Its also got two fluted channels wrapping round the side fins, which you don't see very much. The fins are early - G&S star fins, and nice to see an unbroken set ! The rear fin though is one of the more keely jam in star fins, so mabye the original did break out. The boards in great original condition with gloss finish, nice and light and a stunner. It has the Lane, Newquay address. 30 years old and going strong.

were'nt there some pics of one or other of the owen twins riding an OM with big ol' Union jack around the early/mid 80s? it rings a bell.

ReplyDeleteI have a 6'6" Ocean Magic Thruster made by Nigel from the same era which I've owned for over 20 years. The fins look the same as the outer ones on the union jack board, does anyone know where I can get a set?
ReplyDeleteIf you're still looking for a set of these fins, I may be able to help you out. I had the same problem a while back and couldn't find a set anywhere, but then ended up being able to buy a couple of sets, so I may have a spare set of these...there's 2 different sorts, one has little tabs that clip in to hold the fin in place,m then there's the later version that has screws to hold them in like the board above. The set I have is a white set with screws to hold them in. You can get hold of me if you're still searching. My email is:

hi they're called star fins and are rare to find now. Google or google image star fins and you should be able to find a guy in the UK who was remoulding them
