Woolacombe lost its station in 1970 when the whole railway line from Barnstaple - Ilfracombe was closed down. The surf museum is on the site of the old Braunton station which disappeared the same time.

ReplyDeleteDoctor Beeching, employed to make the railways pay by wiping out uneconomic branch lines, but destroying many small communities at the same time. The south-west was one of the most affected areas
