Tigger Newling singlefin

Early 70s singlefin from the talented Tigger Newling , from Alex's collection. It's 6'6 and would have been made around Constantine where Tigger grew up surfing, becoming a local standout and winning the British title in 1973. Alex has a new book coming out about his photos of British surfing from the 70s, and can be contacted at .

Line up for the British championships held in Jersey in 1969. Tigger on the left with a similar board, Pete Jones in the middle.

  1. I lived with tig at pops patch, factory was on the airfield, we usrd to make curves for boards by hanging toilet chains down the wall on the stairs-remember this dec and the poster being done , was in jersy for that final too, we got thrown out of the hotel-felix and colin wilson had wrecked the bedroom-happy days- Jeannie

  2. I just stumbled on this comment. Months after you made it.
Your memory is spot on Jeannie, our great search for the perfect surfboard template curve using chains hanging off the wall, or even drawing big ellipses using string and two nails. Happy days indeed.
That was a blast a few years back when you came up to me in Newport Post Office in Sydney after I hadn't seen you in decades and had no idea you were even visiting Australia. Suddenly I recognized this person looking at me strangely. Was really good to catch up with you.
    Love - Tigger.
