Simon has recently found this Calypso in the Newquay area. Calypso was linked to Bob Groves, made for a Dorset sports shop, see card below, and made by Bob or in this case Mac. Probably Alan Macbride from Newquay. There has been another Calypso board on the blog - see
http://vintagesurfboardcollectoruk.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=calypso. Bob Groves has spent most of his time based around Bournemouth, and his labels have included Groves-Davies at the beginning, Infinity, Karisma, Litening Bolt, and has been a major blank supplier to UK shapers over the late 60s and 70s.This board dates from around 1974, with deep swallowtail which became popular from '73, hand drawn logo, which became a printed logo later for the Calypso shop. A great condition old board and a good find.
Bob Groves says about the board - ''Nope, not one of mine. I only made a few boards for Reg at Calypso back in the 60s. Could it be Darryl Williams or Steve Brown ?''
Reg was BSA chairman in the late60s early 70s.
printed Calypso label on a Karisma board which also turned up in Newquay.
