Was at Nazare about 20 yrs ago, there was no ridable surf, only a big churning beach dump, thro` which locals tried to launch wooden fishing boats which they ran down the beach on wooden rollers. Getting them back was pretty hairy too, ropes from carthorses fixed to the boats, then drag them up the beach. Saw one 20 ft job turn over and come out on it`s side.

I was there last year and it was too small to go in ! Not that I'd have gone in this time either. The castle looks close enough...
