  1. Woolacombe lost its station in 1970 when the whole railway line from Barnstaple - Ilfracombe was closed down. The surf museum is on the site of the old Braunton station which disappeared the same time.

  2. same with Perranporth and helston in Cornwall, quite a few lines closed down

  3. Doctor Beeching, employed to make the railways pay by wiping out uneconomic branch lines, but destroying many small communities at the same time. The south-west was one of the most affected areas
